Gluttonous Cyclops, Eye Gouge, Nyxborn Brute and Benthic Giant are all references to the encounter between Ulysses and the cyclops Polyphemus, son of Poseidon, described in Homer's Odyssey.
The character of Callaphe seems particularly inspired by that of Ulysses, as several episodes of "The Callapheia" directly refer to his encounter with the Cyclops / Giant.
