The "Magic Invitational Tournament" was an event held by Wizards ot the Coast from 1997 to 2007. The best players were invited to duel in various formats. The winner was allowed to design a card which would be printed in a future set, once it got the R&D's green light. The winner was also depicted on the card's art.
Gemstone Caverns, designed by Tsuyoshi Fujita during the 2005 invitational tournament, won the public vote among the users on the Wizards of the Coast website.
The character on Sylvan Safekeeper (Judgment), illustrated by Pete Venters, is Olle Rade, the winner of the 1996-1997 invitational tournament.
